CU On the Trails

Two border collies hiking on a trail

Hiking is my favourite thing to do with my dogs, and CU games work wonders to keep them engaged on the trails.  I feel very strongly about giving dogs a sense of off-leash freedom without breaking leash laws, so I will show you how to improve your long-line handling skills in week 1.  Bring your rubber boots and be prepared to get a little dirty!

What’s covered:

  • How to get more reliable recalls
  • Games to teach our dogs to reorient to us when they see distractions
  • Controlled setups to increase success when other people/dogs pass on the trail

IN PERSON ONLY
4 weeks x 1 hr
200 + HST

Fitness Foundations & Manners

Canine fitness is an incredible way to build your dog’s confidence, balance, and strength. It’s also a great way to make learning novel things enjoyable your dog. As an added bonus, the impulse control exercises we use for canine fitness also help with doggy manners!

What’s covered:

  • Creative options for equipment that you probably already have in your own home
  • Front & Rear Foot Targets
  • Nose target & sustained nose touch
  • Position Changes on stable equipment
  • A variety of exercises to improve your dog’s proprioception

Everything can be modified to be safe for young puppies, so there is no age restriction to join

Disclaimer: This is NOT a rehabilitation class, so if your dog is recovering from any sort of injury please contact your vet and a canine physiotherapist for help.

Rally Fit

Pre-Requisite: Fitness Foundations & Manners

Once you’ve got the basic foundations figured out there are so many ways we can put them together to do a variety of different kinds of exercises.  This class combines canine fitness exercises with Rally-O and CU exercises

What’s covered:

  • CU games to improve leash-work between stations
  • Intermediate to Advanced Obedience skills
  • Different combinations of exercises laid out in a fitness circuit
  • Enrichment stations for breaks each week

IN PERSON: 4 weeks x 1 hr – 200 + HST
Virtual Option: 150 + HST

Tricks 4 Freestyle

We start with individual tricks, and then we put them together into sequences that you can use to build your own freestyle routine.  All these tricks are easy to teach with food. If you want to transition your dog to doing them for toys, we’ll show you how to do that too!

What’s covered:

Leg weaves, spin, bow, say your prayers, footsies, arm hoops, and jump into my arms. Depending on time will take requests for other tricks

IN PERSON: 4 weeks x 1 hr – 200 + HST
Virtual Option: 150 + HST

Did you know? Sam is a CTDI (Certified Trick Dog Instructor) for Do More With Your Dog! You can have tricks evaluated for titles in class, or if you’d like to join our Facebook group: Getting Tricky With It you can get tricks evaluated there!

We’ll probably also be hosting the odd tricks workshop geared toward earning specific titles, so stay tuned to our social media pages for announcements!

If you’re like me when I started trying to use toys in training, you’re probably thinking: it’s not as easy as some people make it look!

Whether you’re using a disc, a tug toy, or a ball, there are a few skills that make using toys training a LOT easier.

What’s covered:

  • Bite-work skills to make it clear to your dog when we want them to grab, tug, give to hand, drop, or bring the toy
  • Games for building connection and toy drive
  • Flatwork skills

IN PERSON: 4 weeks x 1 hr – 200 + HST
Virtual Option: 150 + HST

Intro to Disc

For those who just want to play in the backyard to those who think they might want to compete someday!

What’s covered:

Week 1-2 (No Dogs):

  • Choosing the right disc
  • How to throw so that your dog can safely make a catch
  • A few trick throws for added flair

Week 3-4 (With Dogs):

  • Flatwork skills
  • Building drive for the disc
  • Games to increase confidence and connection with your dog

If your dog does NOT already have a solid retrieve, we recommend taking the Toy Handling & Basic Sport Foundations class before taking this class
